Join new proprietors Rebecca Holbrook and Gary Nelson in honoring Antony Holland's legacy and bringing new breath and vision to the Gabriola Theatre Centre.
A concert of Rebecca's old-time, new age, folk grass original music will be featured; accompanying her will be husband Gary Nelson and celebrated Gabriola musicians Victor Anthony, Allannah Dow and Patrick Olmsted.
This wonderful group of musicians will also play the music for a contradance following the concert. All those ready to allow themselves to be delighted by this fun, active and social dance form are invited to participate. Gary will call the dances.
Door opens at 5 pm. The concert will begin at 5:30, followed by dancing at 6:30.
Join us for a gathering of writers at the south end of the island this month. From professionals to aspiring, from dabblers to determined, everyone is welcome. This is not a class, workshop or critique group (although, if you meet others who want to start other groups, great!)…it's really just a party for writers to get to know each other! We tried it in November and it was a lot of fun! Bring a snack/drink to share if you're so inclined. Spouses/partners/significant others are welcome, but they probably get plenty of writing talk at home already, so feel free to let them stay home and come alone!
Please feel free to come even if you can't donate.

As these guys like to tell their story, the band "brings grit, skill and abandon to old-time, Appalachian folk songs and fiddle/banjo tunes". While this is certainly true, it is also the case that their playing is tight and polished; their songs are personal, bringing meaning to all manner of occasions. Their music will speak to you during the concert, and it will move you, body and soul, through the dances. Gary Nelson will be your dance caller.
If the concert is enough to please you, it will last about 45 minutes, and you can get that pleasure for just $15. If you can't make it for the concert and just want to jump in on the dancing - you can get all that music and movement for just $15. If you need it all, the whole evening is yours for only $20.
Door opens at 5:30 pm. The concert will begin at 6:00, followed by a short introductory dance lesson. The contradance begins at 7:15. Shuttle from/to ferry available.
